A body which is supposed to look into matters of education concerning a block, locality, city or country is termed as the board of education. When free and compulsory education assumed an integral part in the constitution of many nations, the role of the boards of education became primal Donna. The board then onwards has broadened its dimensions as well as its jurisdiction and has become more closely concerned with the concept of imparting the best of education to the maximum number of people. It consists of the best educationists and nation builders which busy themselves with the task of shaping out of human clay the future of their nation.
The number of boards of education that are permitted to exist in a country varies with the education policy followed by its policy framers keeping in the national interest in mind. In a country like India which follows the policy of Non-Alignment as its foreign policy permits the existence of both domestic such as ICSE,CBSE and foreign such as Board of Oxford University and Cambridge University ,boards of education within its education scenario.
A board of education is governed by the national policy and has a host of multifarious tasks under its belt. Ranging from updating the syllabus to keep up with the changing times to ensuring a free and fair based marking system for the students the duties of a board of education are endless. On it lie’s the responsibility holistic knowledge bestowment by providing adequate hours both for work and play.
However it is a matter of deep regret that the boards of education have shown great discrepancy within promise and performance and have failed to live up to the standards set in the constitution. Rigging, corrupt teachers, Red tapism and partiality in awarding marks are some of the ailments which have sickened the high ideals and standards of the boards of education and have reduced their functions to a perfunctory stage. |
