Higher Education

After one has finally crossed that insurmountable barrier of secondary school, one looks forward with a beaming smile to a higher seat of learning precisely a college or a university (that is possible only if one has managed to secure respectable grades in the school leaving exam).Higher education is alternately termed as tertiary, third stage or post secondary education or even academia. It is at this stage that education in a responsibly governed country becomes non-mandatory. The lack of imperativeness in following a set course for all makes this kind of education enjoyable for most.

Tertiary education is generally taken to include undergraduate and postgraduate courses of specialization, as well as vocational education and training. Colleges and Universities are the two seats of learning that re formally involved with the dissemination of higher education and are collectively called tertiary institutions. Examples of institutions that provide post-secondary education are vocational schools, community colleges etc. Higher education results in the receipt of degrees and diplomas by the outgoing pupils which serve as a testimony of their education standard and is used often in the procurement of a satisfactory job.

However higher education does not concern itself only to the securing of a degree, it stretches its field of activity way beyond to teaching, research an development commonly abbreviated as “RnD” as well as some form of social service. Students of college and universities also indulge in Earn- while- you–are-studying kind of a lifestyle by participating in various part-time jobs to fund their education.

Higher education is working and honing the skills developed through elementary education. In most developed countries a high proportion of the population (up to 50%) pursues higher forms of education which only reflects the fact that higher education is therefore very important to national economic growth and improvement in the standard of living of people. it stands for both as a significant industry in its own right, and as a source of trained and educated personnel for the rest of the economy.
